Day 2 - Aix-les-Bains to Grenoble
Today is another transit day to get us down into the Alps and closer to our ultimate destination of Bourg d'Oisans at the foot of Alpe d'Huez. The journey to Grenoble is a bit longer that our first day at around 90 kms, but has very little climbing to be done.
Leaving Aix-les-Bains we roll on dedicated bikeway along the shore of Lac du Bourget. Swinging round the southern edge of the lake we continue on dedicated bike paths all the way into Chambéry where a bakery treat in the park is in order. The route to our lunch stop in Pontcharra takes us on peaceful village roads through fields of vines. After lunch we follow the valley south down to Grenoble, picking up a cycle way along the top of the levee along the Isére river on the final part of the approach into the city.

Stay and Eat
We had a tasty alfresco lunch at Auberge le Bayard in Pontcharra. A cold Perrier and a Kronenbourg with lunch was restorative on a hot day!
Our overnight stay at the Privilodges Chateau Perrin in Grenoble was comfortable with a secure place to park the bikes. Whilst we did not do any sightseeing in Grenoble, the location was good with cafes, convenience stores and supermarkets all within easy walking distance.
